Cancer Care now Accredited with Commendations

The Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons has granted Accreditation with Commendations to Onslow Memorial Hospital’s cancer program. This accreditation is awarded to top cancer programs that ensure patients receive:

  • Comprehensive care, including a range of state-of-the-art services and equipment
  • Multi-specialty, team approach to coordinate the best treatment options
  • Information about on-going clinical trial and new treatment options
  • Access to cancer-related information, education and support
  • A registry that collects data on type and stage of cancers and treatment results, and offers lifelong patient follow-up
  • Ongoing monitoring and improvement of care
  • Quality care close-by, near to family and friends

In order to maintain and receive accreditation, facilities must ensure its patients have access to the full scope of services required to diagnose, treat, rehabilitate and support patients with cancer and their families. Facilities also go through regular evaluation to reaffirm its level of program care

In addition to Accreditation, Onslow Memorial’s Cancer Program met the Commission on Cancer’s commendation level criteria for five of the standards.

Onslow Memorial Hospital is constantly working to improve services and expand our offerings so that we can provide the Onslow community with the best healthcare available. This is great news for the Onslow community who can receive top cancer care closer to home.

This accreditation is just one more way OMH is serving the community, one patient at a time.
