A Safe Culture, A Calling from the Heart

A safe culture is the foundation for quality and for improving the patient and family experience. A safe culture is critical in reducing cost and reducing complaints. A safe culture requires everyone working together as a team. A safe culture can only be ensured by everyone being accountable and responsible.
Over the past two months we have received much recognition for our safe culture. In March we received comments from the Joint Commission surveyor about our pursuit toward a safe culture. With only three direct findings, the Joint Commission survey results attest to our high level of safety and quality.
We received recognition by the North Carolina Center for Quality in our excellent results in reducing hospital acquired infection. Onslow Memorial Hospital was the only hospital out of 111 in North Carolina and Virginia as part of the Hospital Engagement Network to receive a banner of recognition. Also in late April we received a grade of “A” from Leapfrog reflecting our safe culture.
A safe culture just does not happen. A safe culture requires dedication, teamwork and individual accountability from everyone for which I am Proud. A safe culture comes from answering a calling from the heart.
